Dr. Mike started working at the Janesville Veterinary Clinics as a vet student in 2000. He graduated from UW-Madison Veterinary School in 2002 and stayed on as a veterinarian. In November 2010 he became owner of the Janesville Veterinary Clinics.
Besides enjoying working with the cats and dogs, he likes to work with exotic pets birds, ferrets and reptiles. Dr. Mike is also our resident ultrasonographer.
When he is not at the clinics he is home with his wife and 2 kids. He also has 2 cats CHARLIE and MILO, enjoys a good poker game, playing sports and wasting time on the computer.
William G. Hicks

Dr. Hicks founded the Janesville Veterinary Clinic in 1973. In November 2010, he sold the practice to one of the veterinarians working at his practice – Dr. Michael Hotchkiss. As of Nov 1st Dr Hicks has retired from day to day practice. You may get to see him if he is in visiting or helping cover if we have doctors out on vacation.
He continues his trips to the clinics he founded in the Cayman Islands and Turks and Caicos. Dr Hicks is usually seen around Janesville with his wife and trusty sidekick OPRAH. He enjoys camping with his grandkids and great grandson and watching his new cat NIKKIE.
Graduating from UW–Madison Veterinary School in 1988. Dr. Mary’s favorite part of Veterinary medicine is working up the complicated cases to reach a diagnosis and developing an effective treatment plan.
When she is not at the clinic your will find her using her free time tending to her gardens, going to movies, reading a good book and cuddling with her 3 furry felines – WOODSEY, DUNCAN and SKYE.
Alyse Aerts-Johnson
Dr. Alyse was born in Lincoln, Nebraska and is from a family of seven. From a small child she always knew that she wanted to become a Veterinarian. Her dream came true when she graduated from Iowa State University in 2010. Her special interests include dermatology and behavior.
When not at work she likes to spend time with her husband, running and weimaraners – SAM and MAX and MARSHMALLOW the cat.
Brenda Arens
Dr. Brenda grew up on a farm in northeast Nebraska. There she fell in love with animals of every shape and size. In 2006 she earned her bachelor’s degree in biology and 2010 graduated from Iowa State Veterinary School. She enjoys all aspects in veterinary medicine, but has a special interest in soft tissue and orthopedic surgery.
In her spare time she enjoys visiting friends and family, singing, playing the piano, running and spending time with her Siamese cat “BASIL”.
